About Afia Foods
Founded by Farrah Moussallati Sibai
Afia makes frozen Eastern Mediterranean foods, including falafel, beef kibbeh, falafel bowls and chicken meals, alongside a line of spices and blends such as za'atar and baharat. The food is made from scratch in Texas with whole food ingredients and no preservatives or fillers. Founder Farrah Moussallati Sibai started the brand with her husband Yassin, using a book of family recipes that traveled with her from Syria, and grew it from a local farmers market to grocery stores nationwide.
Good to know
Answered by Afia Foods.
Is the meat in Afia products halal?
Yes. Any product with meat uses only halal meat: US-sourced halal beef, and US-sourced halal chicken raised with no antibiotics ever.
Is the falafel vegan and gluten-free?
All current falafel flavors are vegan and gluten-free, with no binders, preservatives, soy or nuts. The Mediterranean Falafel Bowls are also vegan; the Chicken Meals are not.
Which products contain common allergens?
The falafel and falafel bowls are free of the top 8 allergens. The Za'atar Falafel and the Roasted Peppers and Tomatoes bowl contain sesame. The kibbeh and the Harissa Honey Chicken Meal contain wheat.
Where do the ingredients come from?
Afia buys all of its ingredients in the U.S.
Is the falafel deep fried?
No. It is flash fried in non-GMO high oleic sunflower oil so it holds its shape before freezing.
How should the falafel be stored?
Keep it frozen until you heat it, since there are no preservatives. It keeps up to 10 days in the fridge, but should not be left in the pantry.
Is the falafel kosher?
The falafel is not kosher certified.
Is the packaging recyclable?
The bowl sleeves are fully recyclable, and the falafel and kibbeh freezer bags are 99% recyclable depending on local options.
