About Asha Pops
Founded by Asha and Jai, Mother-and-son co-founders
AshaPops makes crunchy, airy snacks from popped water lily seeds, known in India as makhana, seasoned in flavors like Himalayan Pink Salt, Vegan Cheese, Turmeric Garlic and Chili. The seeds are baked with extra virgin olive oil or avocado oil instead of seed oils, with no added sugar or artificial colors or flavors. The brand was started by Asha, who grew up eating popped water lily seeds in India, and her son Jai, who now pop and season them in small batches in Los Angeles.
Good to know
Answered by Asha Pops.
What are water lily seeds?
Also called makhana or fox nuts, they are the edible seeds of the Euryale ferox water lily, which grows in ponds and lakes in India and across Asia. Popped, they turn light and crunchy, a bit like popcorn.
What are AshaPops made from?
Popped water lily seeds, avocado oil or extra virgin olive oil, and seasonings such as Himalayan pink salt, turmeric, garlic, chili or nutritional yeast. There are no artificial flavors, colors, preservatives or seed oils.
Where are AshaPops made?
The seeds come from farms in Bihar, India, and are popped, seasoned and packed in small batches in Los Angeles.
Which oils do you use?
Extra virgin olive oil for Vegan Cheese and Himalayan Pink Salt, and avocado oil for Chili and Turmeric Garlic. No seed oils are used.
Are AshaPops vegan?
Yes. Every ingredient is plant-based, and the Vegan Cheese flavor gets its cheesy taste from nutritional yeast rather than dairy.
What about allergens?
The snacks contain none of the major allergens and are also corn-free, but they are made in a facility that also processes gluten, dairy, eggs, fish, shellfish, tree nuts, wheat, peanuts and soybeans. Check the label if you have a severe allergy.
How should I store them?
Keep them in a cool, dry place away from humidity and direct sun, and reseal the bag or use an airtight container once opened to keep them crunchy.
How long do they last?
Roughly 12 to 18 months unopened; the exact date is printed on each bag. Once opened, they are crunchiest within a few days.
