About Chia Smash
Smash Foods makes fruit spreads from real fruit, sweetened with dates and set with chia seeds instead of piles of sugar, plus jam-filled protein bites and toaster pastries. Because the spreads have far less sugar than the legal minimum for jam, the brand calls them fruit spreads rather than jam. It was started by Anna, a lifelong jam lover, and Steve, and is based in Brooklyn, New York.

Answered by Chia Smash.
What is in Smash Foods fruit spread?
It is made with berries, chia seeds, dates and lemon, with no added sugar. The sweetness comes from the fruit and dates.
What does it taste like?
Each jar is more than 75% fruit, so the fruit flavor leads, with a light date sweetness. It is noticeably less sweet than regular jam, and the chia seeds have a neutral taste.
What is the texture like?
Spoonable and easy to mix, so it swirls well into yogurt, oatmeal and smoothies or drizzles over pancakes.
How can I use it?
Beyond toast and peanut butter, try it on oatmeal, granola, yogurt, pancakes and waffles, in smoothies and baking, with cheese, or in savory sauces and dressings.
How long does it last?
Unopened jars keep for about 1.5 years; the best-by date is on the bottom. Once opened, refrigerate and finish within about 8 weeks.
Does it need to be refrigerated?
Yes, once opened. It is best eaten chilled for texture.
Are the products allergen-free?
They are made in shared facilities that also handle tree nuts and peanuts. Allergen controls are in place, but people with severe allergies should use discretion.
Where does the fruit pectin come from?
It is derived from citrus peels, usually a blend of lemon, orange, lime and sometimes grapefruit.
