About Fat Miilk

Founded by Lan Ho

Fat Miilk roasts 100% Robusta coffee sourced directly from smallholder farmers in Vietnam's Central Highlands, with roasts that lean nutty and chocolaty. Coffee is roasted in-house to order in small batches in Chicago, and the brand also makes a matte black phin filter for brewing the traditional way. It was started in 2020 by Lan Ho, a Vietnamese American entrepreneur who built the brand around her heritage and Vietnamese coffee culture.

Good to know

Answered by Fat Miilk.

  • What is Vietnamese coffee?

Coffee grown in Vietnam, the leading producer of Robusta beans. It is traditionally brewed slowly through a small metal phin filter for a strong, concentrated cup, often served with sweetened condensed milk or over ice.

  • Where is the coffee sourced?

Directly from smallholder farmers in Vietnam's Central Highlands, with no middleman. A team on the ground vets each farm.

  • Where is it roasted?

In-house in Chicago, in small batches and only to order.

  • Does the coffee contain milk?

No. The beans are 100% roasted coffee with no added dairy, additives, oils or artificial flavorings.

  • How much caffeine does Robusta have?

Robusta contains nearly twice the caffeine of Arabica. Decaf is not currently offered.

  • How long does the coffee stay fresh?

Each bag carries a roast date. It is best within 4 months of roasting and can keep up to 6 months stored cool and airtight.

  • How should I store it?

In an airtight container in a cool, dark place away from heat, light, air and moisture. Avoid the fridge and freezer.

  • Do I need a phin to brew it?

No. The phin is recommended, but the beans work in a French press, pour-over, drip machine or espresso.
