About Joi

JOI, pronounced "joy" and short for Just One Ingredient, makes shelf-stable plant milk bases from whole almonds, cashews, oats, soy, hemp and peanuts. You add the water at home, mixing a spoonful into a glass, a smoothie or coffee, so there are no gums, seed oils or preservatives and far less packaging than cartons. The squeeze-bottle bases double as drizzling butters, and the range also includes powders and oat milk creamers. The idea came out of grad school, from a group of friends who were each already making almond milk by hand, and the products are made in the USA.

Answered by Joi.

  • What is a plant milk concentrate?

A dense paste or powder made from whole nuts, seeds or grains, without the water. You mix it with water at home to make fresh plant milk, and JOI adds no gums, seed oils or preservatives.

  • Are JOI products vegan and dairy-free?

Yes. Every product is fully plant-based, with no animal-derived ingredients.

  • Are there nut-free options?

The Organic Oat Milk Powder and Organic Soy Milk Powder are made without nuts. Check the allergen statement on each product page for your specific allergy.

  • How much concentrate do I use per cup?

For the paste bases, start with 1.5 to 2 tablespoons per cup of water and adjust for a richer or lighter milk. For powders, follow the directions on the package.

  • Do I need a blender?

A blender gives the smoothest milk from the almond and cashew pastes. The powders can simply be stirred or shaken into water.

  • How should I store the concentrates?

Unopened pastes and powders keep at room temperature. Refrigerate pastes once opened, while powders can stay in a cool, dry place.

  • How long does the prepared milk last?

With no preservatives, milk made from the concentrate keeps about 5 to 7 days in the fridge.

  • Where are JOI products made?

All JOI products are made in the USA.
