About Littlefoot Matcha

Founded by Anna Lyons

Littlefoot Matcha sells ceremonial-grade matcha sourced from Japanese growing regions such as Uji, Yame and Shizuoka, offered as single cultivars and blends, each with its own tasting notes. The range also includes a roasted hojicha powder. Founder Anna Lyons started the brand after a 2022 trip to Japan changed how she thought about matcha, and named it after the dinosaur from The Land Before Time. The brand gives $1 from every tin to Glenwood Together, a community non-profit in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Good to know

Answered by Littlefoot Matcha.

  • What is matcha?

A finely ground powder made from shade-grown green tea leaves. You consume the whole leaf rather than steeping it.

  • What grade of matcha do you sell?

Only ceremonial grade, which has a smooth, delicate flavour and a vibrant green colour.

  • Where does your matcha come from?

Japan, from regions such as Uji, Yame and Shizuoka.

  • How much caffeine is in matcha?

Roughly 35 to 70 mg per teaspoon serving, depending on how much you use and how you prepare it.

  • What can I make with your matcha?

Traditional matcha, hot or iced lattes, smoothies, matcha sodas, cocktails and mocktails.

  • How long does matcha stay fresh after opening?

About two months. Store it somewhere cool and dark, away from heat and moisture.

  • What is hojicha?

A roasted Japanese green tea powder, made in small batches, with earthy, caramel and lightly smoky notes. It is naturally lower in caffeine than matcha.

  • How is hojicha different from matcha?

Hojicha is made by roasting the tea leaves, stems or twigs, which turns it toasty brown and lowers its caffeine. Matcha is unroasted and bright green.
