About Lotus Foods

Founded by Caryl Levine, Co-founder

Lotus Foods sells heirloom and organic rice, along with rice-based ramen, pad thai, soba and udon noodles, heat-and-eat pouches and instant soup cups. The company began in 1995 by importing black rice from China, which it named Forbidden Rice, and it now sources from smallholder farms in places like India, Thailand, Cambodia and Indonesia. Much of its rice is grown with a low-water method the brand calls More Crop Per Drop. Co-founders Caryl Levine and Ken Lee started the California-based company.
