About Smart Sweets
Founded by Tara Bosch
SmartSweets makes gummy candy, lollipops and fruit flavored snacks that recreate nostalgic favorites like Sweet Fish, Peach Rings and sour gummies with far less sugar. The candy contains no sugar alcohols, artificial sweeteners or added sugars, and most of the range is plant-based. Founder Tara Bosch started the brand after months of testing recipes in her own kitchen with a gummy bear mould, launching first in Canadian stores before expanding to the US.
Good to know
Answered by Smart Sweets.
Are SmartSweets plant-based?
Most are. Gummy Worms, Sour Gummy Worms and Halloween Gummy Worms contain gelatin; the rest of the range, including Sweet Fish, Peach Rings and Dream Puffs, is plant-based.
Do SmartSweets use sugar alcohols?
No, not even as bulking agents.
Are SmartSweets made with common allergens?
The candy is made without FDA or CFIA priority allergens as ingredients, including peanuts, tree nuts, milk, eggs, soy, sesame and wheat. Some facilities handle other allergens under cross-contact controls.
What replaces corn syrup in the recipe?
SmartSweets uses isomalto-oligosaccharides (IMO), a soluble tapioca fiber, in place of the corn syrup found in traditional candy.
How long do SmartSweets last?
Sealed bags are shelf-stable for 12 to 24 months depending on flavor. With no preservatives, the candy will harden if left open to the air.
Are SmartSweets kosher?
Only Sweet Fish is kosher certified at this time; look for the symbol on updated packaging.
Why are the US and Canadian recipes different?
Ingredient rules and availability vary by country, so each market has its own recipes.
How big is a serving?
The standard 50g (1.8oz) bag is one serving.
