About Tony's Chocolonely

Tony's Chocolonely makes chocolate bars in big and small sizes, from classic milk and 70% dark to filled flavours like caramel sea salt, pretzel toffee and raspberry popping candy. The brand exists to end exploitation in cocoa, including poverty, child labor and deforestation, and sources its cocoa under its own Tony's Sourcing Principles. Its bars are split into unequal chunks that trace the West African coastline, a reminder of how unevenly the chocolate industry's profits are shared.

Good to know

Answered by Tony's Chocolonely.

  • Why is the chocolate Fairtrade?

When Tony's started, Fairtrade was the certification most aligned with its goals, guaranteeing a minimum price and working with cooperatives. Tony's sees it as a starting point and goes further with its own Sourcing Principles.

  • Why are the bars divided unequally?

The uneven chunks reflect how unequally profits are shared in the chocolate industry. The bottom of the bar maps the West African coastline, from Côte d'Ivoire to part of Cameroon.

  • Is the chocolate suitable for vegetarians?

Yes, all Tony's chocolate is suitable for vegetarians.

  • Why do the labels say 'may contain gluten'?

All bars are made on shared production lines. Despite strict cleaning between batches, Tony's can't guarantee any bar is fully allergen-free, so it uses 'may contain' labeling.

  • Is there a sugar-free bar?

Not at the moment. Tony's has no current plans for a sugar-free bar or one made with a sugar substitute.
