Wunderground

Wunderground makes coffee blended with extracts of four functional mushrooms: Lion's Mane, Reishi, Chaga and Cordyceps. The range includes roasted coffee, craft instant sticks and a caffeine-free mix-in with hints of cocoa and vanilla for coffee, tea or smoothies. Each serving uses 5,000mg of fruiting-body mushroom extract, formulated so the cup tastes like coffee rather than mushrooms. The brand grew out of Seattle cafés and was started by Jody Hall, and its packaging features art by Japanese artist Kimiaki Yaegashi.

• Can you taste the mushrooms?

  No. The mushroom extracts are earthy on their own, but the products are formulated to taste smooth and coffee-forward.

• What is Brain Wash SuperBoost?

  A caffeine-free mushroom mix-in made with Lion's Mane, Cordyceps, Chaga and Reishi, with hints of cocoa and vanilla. Add it to coffee, tea, lattes or smoothies.

• How much mushroom is in each serving?

  Each serving carries the equivalent of 5,000mg of mushrooms, delivered through concentrated extracts.

• Why fruiting body mushrooms?

  The fruiting body is the actual mushroom. Many brands use mycelium grown on grain, which can end up more starch than mushroom.

• Are the mushrooms single or dual extract?

  Chaga and Reishi are extracted with both hot water and alcohol. Lion's Mane and Cordyceps are hot-water extracted.

• How do the mushrooms get into whole bean coffee?

  A proprietary method uses a small amount of organic sunflower oil to help infuse the mushroom extract.

• What grind is the ground coffee?

  A medium-coarse universal grind for French press, pour-over and drip. Whole bean is also available.

• How much caffeine is there?

  A 12oz cup of the brewed roasted coffee has about 90mg of caffeine. Brain Wash SuperBoost has none.
